Wednesday will be one year since my father-in-law passed.
How can it be one year already?
I still have flashbacks to those five days in the hospital. Especially after spending four days in a hospital in Ohio. I still wake up shaking with his slack face stuck in my mind staring at me from that hospital bed.
So much has changed in what feels like a short amount of time.
Charming still hasn't processed his loss. He has moments where it hits him like a sledgehammer and he just breaks down, but mostly he stays strong. For his mom. Because she is still having a tough time. She has come leaps and bounds in her ability to live alone but there are still set-backs and problems.
It's only been a year. And at the same time, it's been a year already?
I worry about Wednesday. About how that date will affect Charming. I worry he has it all bottled up inside and it will burst free on Wednesday.
We will not be home. We will be away, trying to keep busy. Distracting ourselves from the reality that is now our lives.

Been thinking about this and you guys since last week. I think this holiday season will be the hardest yet. They say the first round of holidays after such a loss is the worst, but I think last year was too soon for you guys and that this year things will hit and hurt in a whole different way. I'm sorry for that, but I know it's necessary in order for the healing to take place. Everyone grieves in their own way and for their own amount of time. Hang in there.
I hope all the reminisces are about the joy and love you shared with your FIL. And that any tears are healing ones. Hugs to all of you on the one year anniversary.
I still have my moments with my sister. One year isn't really that long ago. Year two was harder for me.
